This week we address several important concerns that can affect you when you change your diet, whether the change is simply to reduce your caffeine consumption, increase your vegetable intake or begin the Thermojetics® Success Program for weight-management.

Overcoming the challenges of dietary adjustment.
Whenever you change your diet, it's natural for your body to go through a period of adjustment. This can be accompanied by physical symptoms, which may include headaches, constipation, diarrhea and hunger pangs. Herbalife's weight-management programs are designed to minimize the symptoms of dietary adjustment and provide you with natural herbal-based products that can ease the transition to a new way of eating, enhance your overall health and assist you in achieving your weight-loss goal. Let's look at some scenarios you may encounter as a result of changing your eating habits and what you can do for them.

What should I do if I get a headache on my weight-management program?
If you experience a headache as a result of dietary change it is likely to be caused by one of two things: inadequate fluid consumption or inadequate calorie intake. You'll be less likely to experience this if you drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day in addition to your shakes and other Herbalife beverages. If you have chosen the Thermojetics® Green Weight-Management Program, you should use soy milk, rice milk, non-fat milk or juice to make your shakes. Be sure that your one meal includes a good serving of protein, such as chicken, fish or tofu, together with a green salad and vegetables. You may also need to include one additional snack per day. Good choices would be a Thermojetics® High-Protein, Low-Carb Protein Bar or Thermojetics® High-Protein, Low-Carb Roasted Soy Nuts with Cardia® Salt.

If you are on the Thermojetics® Gold High-Protein, Low-Carb Weight-Management Program, be sure that you are eating every two to three hours. Choose from the wide variety of Thermojetics® High-Protein, Low-Carb snacks or from foods on the "Green" list for the program.

What can I do about constipation or diarrhea?
Any change in your diet can bring about constipation, especially when your body is adjusting to fewer calories. If you experience constipation, it is important to increase your water consumption to at least eight glasses per day. In addition, try adding one-and-a-half teaspoons of Herbalife's Active Fiber to each shake you drink. This should help.

While dietary change may cause constipation in some, in others it can provoke diarrhea. If diarrhea is your concern, and you are using milk in your shakes, try switching to soy milk or rice milk. If you are using juice, try changing to another type-cranberry juice is a good option. Or use soy milk or plain yogurt in place of juice for a few days and then resume with your favorite juice once your system has adjusted.

What should I do when I get hungry on the program?
If you find you get hungry a few hours after your Thermojetics® Formula 1 Shake or Thermojetics® High-Protein, Low-Carb Shake, add two tablespoons of Thermojetics® Performance Protein Powder to your shake recipe. If you are on the Thermojetics® Gold High-Protein, Low-Carb Program, you can also add Thermojetics® High-Protein, Low-Carb Drink Mix to your shake. Each fruit flavor (Orange, Peach Mango and Wild Berry) provides 15 grams of protein and only 70 to 80 calories. Powering up your shake with these extra protein formulas will definitely help you feel more full. Adding the fiber products, such as Activated Fiber or new Active Fiber can also decrease hunger.
